Cast of the Year End Performance (Mr. Penty - front) |
Well, in what seems like the blink of an eye, another year at the Improv Club has come and gone!
We had a great time this year which makes it hard to cover absolutely everything in this post, so we'll just cover off the highlights.
At the beginning of the year, we dusted off our "Vic High Event" (as the club members started calling it - the other name was the "Jonathan Event" named after one of our coaches, Jonathan Argue, who came up with the format.

We worked hard on our improv skills getting ready for both the Canadian Improv Games season and a last minute version of the annual Vic High Fine Arts Night.

In November we attended the first event of the CIG season, the "Exhibition Rounds". This is non-competitive evening where all the South Island teams get to showcase at least one of their CIG events, in addition to participating in some group games and warm-ups.

Then it was time to hit the stage for the annual Fine Arts Night. This year was a little different so our club members ended up getting more stage time then they had in previous years, which worked out just great!

Then, it was time for Christmas Break! After coming back, we jumped right into the first competition of the Canadian Improv Games, the South Island Cup.
The South Island Cup featured teams from Ladysmith High, Gulf Islands Secondary (Saltspring & surrounding Islands), Esquimalt, Mount Doug, Stelly's and Vic High.
The big surprise for us (and it was a great one!) was that WE WON THE SOUTH ISLAND CUP!

Still in Shock |
With new found excitement, we worked on getting ready for the Island Finals - this is an entire weekend of competitions and workshops involving schools from as far away as Port Hardy.
It's a great chance for all participants to meet each other and support each other!

The CIG 2014-2015 Referees |
Our Vic High Sharks did their best but unfortunately didn't move forward to the final round. We were a little sad about that, but we know this is only a part of what we enjoy doing and besides, there's more to improv than the CIGs!

Our Mascot, the Vic High Sharks! |
We finished up the year with a fun year-end performance at the Intrepid Theatre Club where we put in a selection of games and performed the improvised murder mystery, Vic-GORE-ia.
We're also excited for next year as WE'RE GOING BACK TO THE
BERLIN IMPROV FESTIVAL!
